About
A little about me and what I work on.
I’m a data scientist and epidemiologist at the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH). I care a lot about the R programming language, Linux, and free and open-source software — and about bringing those tools to bear on problems that matter.
If you work for the State of Connecticut, you’ll often find me presenting or helping out at our inter-agency R User Group.
What I’ve worked on
Over the last seven years at DPH, I’ve worked with colleagues to:
- Help tackle the opioid epidemic in Connecticut.
- Expand the use of near-real-time syndromic surveillance.
- Bring automated daily and weekly reporting to DPH and to the public through the Connecticut Open Data Portal.
Outside of work
I’m a father who spends time camping, doing woodworking, tinkering with computer hardware, and pulling manual espresso shots (along with all the other coffee gear that tends to follow).
